Ultrasonic Liposuction
Ultrasonic liposuction (UAL) is a form of fat removal that uses sound waves. The sound waves actually liquefy the fat before it is removed. UAL is beneficial for those hard to reach places, such as the face, chin, neck, or even ankles. Most often it is used in addition to traditional liposuction for those who want a more detailed body shape.
The Process
The UAL procedure entails injecting what is referred to as tumescent fluid injections. The tumescent fluid consists of a combination of anesthetic, salt water solution, and epinephrine. These injections make the fat deposits easier to remove.
The ultrasonic sound waves are then delivered through a cannula. A cannula is a small tube that is inserted in the body. This tube is inserted into the body, and when it touches the fat cells, they are liquefied almost instantly and are removed through a vacuum.
The Benefits
UAL has many benefits. For example, UAL tightens the skin during the procedure, thus serving two purposes. It acts almost like a tummy tuck or face lift, making the skin appear tighter and more youthful, in addition to removing the fatty deposits underneath the skin.
Other benefits to UAL include the ability to remove large amounts of fat in hard to reach areas, its accuracy, and the ability to remove denser fat deposits through liquefying them.
The Risks
As with any surgical procedure, UAL comes with its own risks that you should be aware of if you are considering UAL. UAL produces a large amount of heat, and thus has an increased risk of burning the skin, causing blisters, or scarring. Also, after receiving UAL, the body tries to refill the cavity creating after the fat is removed by producing excess fluids. These extra fluids produced by the body need to be removed until the hole is closed.
